Gallery Nucleus group show...

September 27th @7p.m.  Gallery Nucleus is hosting a group show in honor of my friend Vicky Ying, husband Mike Yamada, and brother Jonathan Ying who've written and beautifully illustrated a great little book of 90 pages called "Curiosities".  the premise is "two kids inheriting an odd old house with generations of accumulated wonder."  sounds kinda cool right.

this is my tiny contribution of pictures to their show; finger paintings, color pencil, and charcoal.  so so grateful that i was even asked.  i've never shown work in an actual gallery before, and to do it in honor of my friend Vicky and Mike...so great.  i interned with Vicky at Disney some years ago and it makes me smile real big to see her still kicking ass.

the letter "M"

JibJab's got a cute little line of alphabet songs and other learn-ed things for wee kids called Storybots.  this is my tiny little contribution to the project...the letter "M".

i thought i'd be moving my ass back down to LA for work, another 2 years.  but it turns out some job ops may not be as, umm, official as you would hope.  perhaps i'll try a couple months for the heck of it, if anybody cares to house this poor soul.  i am in fact house broken and don't own much junk...

this is the first in a series of large scales works i will do, a series perhaps called "rounded edges."  by next year i hope to have over ten of these works completed and a potential gallery space to showcase it.  God willing, i also hope to create a small coffee table sized book of round edged drawings and doodles, hence my last few posts of round edged sketchbook drawings.  i'm pretty nervous, but very thrilled nonetheless...

God & Money

i was able to finish this in just under five days for my church as an intro to a short series topic of God and money.

always playing, guessing, and getting it wrong.

sometimes an under drawing is most annoying, and find myself almost never doing it.  so, to get more joy out of the picture i just wing it, paint shapes or draw lines, then fill in the blanks.  the spontaneity of it i guess is more satisfying.  not to say i exclude intended meaning from the improvised image, rather i allow more room for the medium to naturally develop its statement.  included is a self portrait, the bottom one.
